FANUC America Inspires Future Innovators During Manufacturing Day Event

At FANUC America’s Rochester Hills, Mich. headquarters, dozens of high school students recently gathered for the company’s annual Manufacturing Day celebration, an immersive experience designed to ignite interest in advanced manufacturing and automation careers.

Students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast in Pontiac, Mich. explored the company’s cutting-edge Customer Experience Center, toured the manufacturing floor and engaged in hands-on robotics demonstrations. The event also featured an informative Q&A session with FANUC experts offering a glimpse into real-world applications of automation technology. Many students expressed newfound enthusiasm for the field following their visit to FANUC America. “The students’ faces were a testament to the time they had touring your facility,” said Demetrius Wilson, Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics Instructor at Oakland Schools Technical Campus NE. “Visiting [FANUC’s] facility really got students excited about the amazing opportunities that await them.”

Manufacturing Day, organized nationally by The Manufacturing Institute and the National Association of Manufacturers, has welcomed more than 11,000 students across Oakland County alone. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the projected shortfall of 2.4 million skilled workers in U.S. manufacturing by 2028, according to the Skilled Careers Coalition.

FANUC America’s Certified Education program plays a pivotal role in bridging this gap. Through more than 1,700 in-school training programs, strategic industry-education partnerships, and its $1 Million Automation Endowed Scholarship fund, FANUC is investing in the future workforce and fostering long-term impact in the automation sector.

The urgency for skilled talent continues to grow. Oakland (Mich.) County Executive David Coulter emphasized the challenge, noting that Michigan is expected to see 47,000 skilled trade job openings through 2028, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.
