FANUC Introduces Three New SCARA Robot Model Variations

by FANUC America | Jun 22, 2022
FANUC America has added three new SCARA robot models to its lineup including the SR-3iA/U ceiling mount, and the SR-3iA/C and SR-6iA/C variants. The new model variants will help companies automate their assembly, packaging, pick and place, and inspection processes.

For Immediate Release

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – (JUNE 22, 2022) – FANUC America, the world leader in CNCs, robotics, and ROBOMACHINEs, has added three new variants to its line of SCARA robot models, including the SR-3iA/U ceiling mount, and the SR-3iA/C and SR-6iA/C variants.  The new model variants enhance FANUC’s ability to meet the needs of companies looking to automate their assembly, packaging, material handling, and inspection processes.

The new SR-3iA/U ceiling mount SCARA robot has a 3kg payload and 350mm reach.  It features a full 360-degree work envelope with no dead zones, meaning the robot can access any point within its reach.  The SR-3iA/U is compact and easy to set up with integrated services in the arm which minimizes the risk of interference with peripheral equipment.  It provides a +/-0.01mm repeatability in the linear axes and a 0.004° wrist rotation repeatability, making it an ideal solution for high-speed applications that require the utmost precision.

The new SR-3iA/C has a 3kg payload and 400mm reach, and the SR-6iA/C has a 6kg payload and 650mm reach.  Featuring a white epoxy coating, both SCARAs are rated IP54, meaning they are protected against contamination from limited amounts of dust and other particles as well as water spray.  They are both rated ISO Class 5 for cleanroom operation, and use NSF-H1 food-grade grease and anti-rust bolts for food handling applications.

In addition to the three new variants, FANUC’s series of 4-axis SCARA robots includes the SR-3iA, SR-6iA, SR-12iA, and SR-20iA models with 3kg, 6kg, 12kg and 20kg payload capacities, and a 400-1,100mm reach, respectively.

The small SR-3iA and SR-6iA SCARAs have a compact footprint and space-saving design for maximum efficiency.   In addition, the SR-3iA/H and SR-6iA/H are 3-axis variants that provide strong performance and an affordable alternative to small linear slide products.  The higher-payload SR-12iA and SR-20iA SCARAs provide flexibility with a large vertical stroke, and an IP65 environmental option for harsh conditions.

“In today’s marketplace, companies are searching for ways to offset labor shortages, boost production and achieve a quick ROI,” said Eric Potter general manager of FANUC’s general industry and automotive engineering segments.  “Our SCARA robots are reliable, flexible and offer a wide range of payloads and environmental ratings to help customers achieve their goals and remain competitive.”

FANUC’s SCARA iRProgrammer user interface makes it easy to set up and program the robots on a Tablet or PC (Teach Pendant is optional).  The SCARA robots are powered by the R-30iB Compact Plus controller and offer the same intelligence and reliability that’s available on all FANUC robots, including integrated iRVision®, conveyor tracking (iRPickTool), and most other software options.

The new SCARA model variants will be available in Q3, 2022.
