FANUC Demonstrates Automation Solutions for Welding, Cutting, Painting and Laser Processing at FABTECH in Atlanta

by FANUC America | Nov 07, 2022
FANUC America will showcase a wide range of automation technologies including new CRX Cobot welders at FABTECH in Atlanta, Nov. 8-10. See FANUC at its main booth #C11637 and at the Painting Pavilion in booth #B5335.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – (Nov. 6, 2022) – FANUC, the global leader in CNCs, robotics and ROBOMACHINEs will showcase a wide range of automation technologies including new CRX Cobot welders at FABTECH in Atlanta, Nov. 8-10.  See FANUC at its main booth #C11637 and at the Painting Pavilion in booth #B5335.

New CRX Welders

FANUC’s new CRX 25iA cobot is extremely robust and able to run for up to eight years without maintenance.  At FABTECH, FANUC will showcase the new CRX-25iA welding cobot, which offers a 25kg payload and 1,889mm reach.  In addition, a CRX-10iA welding cobot will allow attendees to teach weld joints using hand guidance or a tablet interface with drag and drop icons.  The easy-to-use CRX welding cobots support FANUC’s advanced features including iRVision®, Torch Angle Control, Touch Sensing and Thru Arc Seam Tracking (TAST).

In 2022, FANUC expanded its popular series of CRX collaborative robots with the new CRX-5iA, CRX-20iA/L and CRX-25iA.  Now with a total of 11 CR and CRX cobot model variations, FANUC has a cobot to handle products ranging from 4 to 35kg in applications such as welding, inspection, machine load/unload, packing, palletizing, sanding, and more.

Heavy Part Welding with ARC Mate 100iD Robot

A FANUC ARC Mate 100iD robot picks a part from a part feeder and loads it into a t-joint fixture.  The ARC Mate 100iD uses FANUC’s Seam Tracking software with SERVO ROBOT’s FUJI-CAM 2.0 sensor to track and weld the first pass with Lincoln Electric’s Hyperfill®.   A one-axis positioner repositions parts for welding the left and right sides of the t-joint.  Light shields lower to show attendees completed parts and the cycle repeats.  The demonstration also features the Lincoln Electric Power Wave® R450 robotic power source with the Advanced Module using the GMAW Pulse process.

This efficient robotic welding solution is easy to setup and provides maximum weld deposition with improved cycle times.

The ARC Mate 100iD robot is the latest member of FANUC’s ARC Mate series based on the experience gained in providing arc welding robots for 40 years.  Designed specifically for arc welding, laser welding, soldering, and cutting applications, the ARC Mate robots are rated best-in-class for speed and accuracy.

A sleek and lightweight design features internal cable routing and a curved J2 robot arm, minimizing interference with work pieces and fixtures and allowing more productivity in the work area.  The series, which includes the larger ARC Mate 120iD, also features a long reach and stroke - even in the backflip region – making it easier for customers to apply the robot while maximizing their available workspace – including larger parts or tooling.

Robotic Trimming and Spot Welding

The R-2000iC/190S and  R-2000iD/210FH  are members of an extensive family of industrial robots offering a variety of payloads and reaches.  A compact design and hollow arm provides better cable management, minimizes interference with system equipment and makes it easier to operate in tight workspaces.  The R-2000iD/210FH has a 210kg payload and 2,605mm reach, and the R-2000iC/190S offers a 190kg payload and 2,040mm reach.  The popular R-2000 series is ideal for spot welding, and a wide range of material handling and removal applications.

At the show, the R-2000iD/210FH robot equipped with integrated FANUC Servo Gun Control and a hollow arm for spot welding dress out will perform simulated spot welding in and around a truck cab.  In addition, the R-2000iC/190S robot will demonstrate trimming an airline fuselage.

Robotic Painting

A FANUC P-40iA paint robot equipped with the R-30iB Plus Mate controller will demonstrate painting metal furniture parts using integrated PaintPRO for cad-to-path programming to achieve easy offline teaching and file transfer to the robot.   The system uses FANUC aux axis control with a table controlled by FANUC’s Purge Motor Box solution. This feature enables part painting with coordinated motion between the robot and the table’s rotation.

The P-40iA robot has a 1,300 mm reach and a 5 kg payload, while offering a compact arm design that fits into small work areas. It includes a cast aluminum body, purged and pressurized arm, FANUC’s purge module, and integrated solenoid valves for gun trigger. Whether the application calls for liquid, powder, FRP chop or gel, the FANUC P-40iA is ready for any applicator and application equipment, making it a complete solution for painting.

Additionally, the P-40iA robot can be mounted in a variety of positions including floor, invert, wall or angle mounts, benefitting companies that are challenged with small or narrow workspaces.  In addition, the P-40iA can be programmed offline using FANUC PaintTool Robot Software, and utilizes FANUC’s latest high-performance R-30iB Mate Plus robot controller.

Since 1982, FANUC has designed and built its paint robots in the U.S. at FANUC America’s headquarters in Rochester Hills, Michigan.  Learn more about the P-40iA.
