FANUC's arbitrary speed threading option is now available on the 0i-TD and 0i Mate-TD CNCs, ideal for maintaining pipes and fittings in the oil and gas industry.
ROCHESTER HILLS, Michigan – (April 11, 2014) FANUC America Corporation now offers the arbitrary speed threading option on the 0i-TD and 0i Mate-TD CNC systems for new turning machines. Arbitrary speed threading allows the operator to adjust the spindle speed during thread cutting to control vibrations, and also offers the functionality to quickly re-thread or repair existing threads. This makes it ideal for maintaining threads on pipes and fittings in the oil and gas industry.
Arbitrary speed tapping allows the operator to adjust the spindle speed during a tapping cycle to eliminate chatter and vibration. This is a valuable feature for thread repair, as vibration is more likely to occur with the small amounts of material typically removed. Without arbitrary speed tapping, spindle speed override is inhibited during tapping. This is to prevent damage to the part, as it would cause a change in the thread pitch. The arbitrary speed tapping feature ensures that the cutting tool remains coordinated with the spindle speed at all times during tapping to produce the programmed pitch.
Arbitrary speed tapping also offers the functionality of picking up and repairing an existing thread, which speeds up setup, makes it easier to use, and allows the original threads to be quickly reproduced. The thread repair process can be further simplified for operators by using FANUC's MANUAL GUIDE i conversational programming. Without the need for G-code knowledge, the operator uses simple graphical screens to answer simple questions and generate a suitable thread repair program.
Arbitrary speed threading can be used with constant pitch threading, thread cycle, and multiple thread cycle. In addition to repetitive machining, the same thread form can be machined even if the spindle speed is changed between roughing and finishing passes. Cs contour control is required for this function.
Arbitrary speed threading automates the rethreading process, which was previously a manual process requiring a high level of skill. The increase in productivity achieved with this option is ideal for the oil and gas industry, where it is common to thread large diameter or long parts and to rethread or repair pipes. When purchasing a new turning machine, specify the arbitrary speed threading option on the FANUC CNC to the machine tool manufacturer or distributor. Arbitrary speed threading was previously introduced for FANUC CNC's 30i-B and 30i-A series.
