ROCHESTER HILLS, MI, November 9, 2015 - FANUC America Corporation will showcase its new ARC Mate 100iC/8L welding robot at the Fabtech trade show, to be held November 9–12 at McCormick Place in Chicago, at booth #N-14025.

At the show, a new ARC Mate 100iC/8L robot will use iRVision® to determine the orientation of a tubular boiler placed on a FANUC two-axis positioner. The robot and the positioner will move in coordination as the robot simulates the welding of parts. Once the welding is complete, the robot will perform a series of coordinated movements, and the sequence will repeat.

ARC Mate Series of Intelligent Robots

The new ARC Mate 100iC/8L offers a reach of 2028 mm and a payload of 8 kg. Compared to the previous model, the new robot features a 30% reduction in energy consumption, weighs 40% less, and offers a long, slender arm with a greater range of motion.  An upgraded motor and servo system shorten cycle times, thereby improving productivity.

“The ARC Mate 100iC/8L is designed to help manufacturers increase production output and reduce energy costs,” says Jason Munson, a welding engineer at FANUC America Corporation. "Its long reach and slender arm allow it to easily weld large parts, even in a confined workspace. In addition, the robot’s excellent range of motion—with the industry’s best reach and stroke ratio—facilitates part positioning and accessibility."

The ARC Mate 100iC/8L, like all FANUC robots, runs on the company’s latest R-30iB controller, which integrates intelligent features such as vision and integrated secondary control, ROBOGUIDE simulation, and DCS speed and position verification software.

The six-axis ARC Mate 100iC robot series includes the new ARC Mate 100iC/8L, the ARC Mate 100iC/12 with a reach of 1420 mm and a payload of 12 kg, and the ARC Mate 100iC/7L with a reach of 1632 mm and a payload of 7 kg.  The robust and rigid ARC Mate 100iC robots offer high speeds and smooth motion.

A hollow wrist facilitates the routing of cables and tubing, eliminating cable management issues. Compared to traditional tooling packages, which are mounted externally on the robot arm, the ARC Mate 100iC’s internal routing allows the tooling package to follow the robot’s range of motion, simplifying programming and eliminating concerns about kinking, snagging, or breaking cables.

The ARC Mate 100iC robots and the R-30iB controller can be integrated into a welding system that includes the welding torch cable, wire feeder, and welding power source.

Features and Benefits of the ARC Mate 100iC

  • The ARC Mate 100iC robot series handles payloads ranging from 7 to 12 kg.
  • It features a six-axis design for maximum flexibility.
  • The compact robot fits into tight workspaces.
  • Mounting in all positions (including floor, inverted, and angled) with the J3 flip-over function.
  • A hollow wrist allows tool cables to be routed internally, minimizing wear.
  • Compatible with the latest FANUC smart features, including iRVision.
  • Optional ServoTorch, integrated wire feeder with touch-trigger retraction.
  • ArcLink XT™, the industry’s first Ethernet-based welding network.
  • Wide range of motion, including best-in-class reach-to-stroke ratio.

FANUC iRVision

FANUC iRVision is a truly integrated, ready-to-use vision system that runs on the standard CPU of all FANUC R-30iB controllers without the need for additional hardware.  iRVision, a single-source solution developed and supported by FANUC, offers easy setup and operation for factory environments requiring 2D and 3D guidance, error verification, visual tracking, and quality control—all with FANUC’s world-renowned reliability.

R-30iB and R-30iB Mate Controllers

The FANUC R-30iB and R-30iB Mate controllers utilize high-performance hardware and the latest advancements in network communications, integrated iRVision, and motion control functions. The R-30iB controllers feature FANUC’s exclusive, easy-to-use iPendant with 4D graphics. The iPendant displays process information and the actual process path directly on the iPendant screen, making setup and troubleshooting easier.

Based on FANUC’s latest 30iB series CNC controller, the R-30iB and R-30iB Mate robot controllers are compact, providing customers with significant space savings. The R-30iB Mate controller, available with a compact, open-air rack-style controller cabinet or a standard industrial-grade Mate cabinet, is highly energy-efficient and requires lower power consumption thanks to its availability in single-phase and three-phase versions. The R-30iB controller offers an optional energy regeneration feature.
